I believe in luck in the GC process. Before 2005 PERM process, many folks applied in states where Labor was fast. They were able to get greencards within a couple of years while others were stuck in Labor Backlog centers (http://immigrationvoice.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=67&Itemid=50). Some cleared all hurdles and got stuck in namechecks for years. Until 2007 Namecheck was a big scare. (http://immigrationvoice.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=81&Itemid=61)
Many people could not file in July 07 for various reasons. Some people were born in India but were brought up in other country. Even they are stuck. Some people decided to rise in their careers and changed jobs on H1. While they did rise, but lost in the grreencard PD race.
So definitely luck pays its role.

OK, let's assume the SC invalidates country-based quotas. All EB-based immigration has to stop at that point until new law is written and passed......
Isn't this we want. New Law. I am pretty sure when new law is being written and debated and passed, we could lobby for the changes we want. I believe, the EB process will not stop during this process because the govt machinery cannot say let the new law comes into force and then we process. They have to process the GC as per the existing law.
First we go the judiciary route. If we win that would be awesome. If we loose that will give us more visibility. More visibility could attract more sympathetic support than what we have right now. Also there will be clear distinction in senators mind between Illegal and Legal immigration. The hearings will expose the lies behind Lou D talk shows.
I believe that this process will act as a catalyst, to the entire process. We are already facing retrogression. Maybe another couple of years of extra wait would be worthwhile if this can bring in the reforms.:)

Met this dude once in a grocery store, he and his hot wife gave me the amway speil. I said listen buddy give me a time to visit your house and number. I called him and we played phone tag, one day I called and his wife picked up, i ASKED IF i could come, she was hesitant and said he was out of state for a conference but I convinced her that it's ok. This was the response I got 3 years ago when I enquired, but I believe the process is different for each province in Canada, and you may want to talk to the person below for more details. Life after internship/residency is not that lucrative in Canada. You may be better off in the Middle East.

He/She will have to complete the qualifying examinations that are administered by the Medical Council of Canada. There are two of these exams. Information about these exams can be found at http://www.mcc.ca. He/She should not have to worry about being subjected to the international medical graduate programs since American schools have their degrees recognized by the licensing bodies in Canada.

Visa numbers can retrogress in the middle of a month and become unavailable without prior notice. If there is a mid-month retrogression, USCIS could elect to stop accepting adjustment applications. While this is unlikely to occur in July 2007, it becomes more and more possible as the fiscal year progresse"

A couple of points. Firstly it's usually a good idea when quoting wikipedia to include the primary reference that the quote or opinion is based on. A contentious issue like immigration reform produces lots of opinion but not all of it is based on fact. Secondly, there are shocking racial elements in the history of immigration laws in the US. Perhaps it's not that shocking when one considers the racial history of the country. Many people will be familiar with the supreme court case 1923 of Bhagat Singh Thind, a Sikh man who fought for the US in World War I. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_v._Bhagat_Singh_Thind
The immigration laws at the time said that only Caucasians could become US citizens. The framers of the law assumed that Caucasian meant "white" while Singh Thind relied on science to prove that people of South Asian origin were also Caucasian. He lost the case with one judge stating "the average man knows perfectly well that there are unmistakable and profound differences".
My point is that the immigration laws of the United States were racist until the 1952 INA act. They specifically placed quotas on people based on the color of their skin. Today's restrictions, while bizarre, unreasonable and unfair in many ways, cannot be defined as racist.
In 1917, this Sikh man, for immigration, went to the Supreme court to fight his battle.
And today, some of our members, when they call us, block their caller ID. God knows what they are afraid of. But certainly not the kind of person who would go as far as Thind went.
If Thind had been fighting today for USA in Iraq, he would have gotten greencard and citizenship. If he made it alive back. There is a program where non-citizens can enlist in the millitary and become citizens.

Today, he emailed by HR directly and told them that "we will file everyone's 485 in first week of July ".
He also said that there is no need to panic because AILA is already threatening USCIS with lawsuit and right now its in negotiations state. (Whatever). He said that the thread from AILA will prevent USCIS from doing the same mischief again in July 2007 to EB2, and EB3 categories. (Somehow I dont buy that, I dont think USCIS is afraid of anyone and they are acting like and independent body ... like the Supreme court working on its own schedule and own whims).
So the thing is...he acknowledges what happened with EB3-other category in June and says that he will file in July first week (good for me and my other co-workers) but he is still sticking to his guns that "It wont happen because USCIS will be scared of AILA".
What USCIS has done for EB3-other worker category is violation of federal regulation and it cannot just ignore the visa bulletins because it feels like doing so and its having a bad day. But nonetheless, the people who make these decisions dont get sued. The agency gets sued, and those lawsuits are fought by internal lawyers who are on USCIS payroll. They get some heat for violating the federal regulation but its not like they would lose their shirt over it.

And yet, the politicians want to reform family based immigration process because the people at the receiving end are their citizens. There is nothing wrong with it because the wait-time for extended family members are really long too which is a shame. But you see, there are bills that are actively discussed and passed in that category i.e fundamental solutions are being explored.
Why is Mr. Bobby Jindal and likes of him not taking up our cause actively? People use their "humble-background" in campaign times. Why do they fail in holding out a helping hand to people that are stuck in such "humble-background"? Do you see such apathy in other minority communities?

there is no harm in having several campaigns ..that will atleast keep members active and interested ..in case you haven't noticed lot of people on EAD have just become laid back and lazy (and sort of insist that nothing will go wrong )

Its not the question of economy alone. When deciding to go back. Its a question about convenience.
a) I don't want to stand in line to pay my Electric/Telephone/House Tax/Income Tax/Train Ticket/Air Ticket/Bus Ticket/Children Admission-donations/Petrol Line/LP Gas Line/Restaurant Line/Chola Bhatura Line/Samosa Line/RTO Office line/Registration line/License Line/Stock Buy line/Stock Sell Line/Bank Deposit Line/Bank Draft Line/Fixed Deposit Line/Kisaan Vikas Patra Line/Registered/Speed post Line/Blue Dart Line/Company registration line/College admission line/College fee line/University degree line/Interview Line/Booking a Car line/Beer Whisky Line/Canteen Line.
Half the country stands in line, the other half manages the line. Neither has any civic sense.
b) I don't want to bribe babus who manage above lines to get ahead in line.
d) I don't want power failures/cooler failures/ac failures/broken roads/or other catastrophic system failures.
e) I dont want fake or mixed eating oil / flour / milk / cheese / butter / peppers / lentils / rice
f) I don't want dangerous chemical fertilizers in my produce (slow killers - massive kidney failure rate in India for past 10 years)
g) I don't want to teach my children dishonesty and tricks of survival/street smartness (in ref to corruption in India) which don't add any value to their personality.
h) The only reason I would wanna go back is for my immediate family and friends. Thats the only thing I miss when it comes to India.
I wouldn't go back and I believe even MK Gandhi himself would'nt leave from Africa for India in todays times.
Also Its the enemy within (corruption) which can cause great harm and we have that kind of enemy now. You can never ever change the attitudes which people carry in India without another revolution.
I am sure I can come up with a huge list of positives too, They will sound very good and will give me a great feeling of fake National Pride.

Finally an honest admission. You finally say there are more Indian and Chinese here because they have huge population.
If you can't see the insult in keeping to say "best and brightest" then I would have wasted my time.
I am not saying that there are more Chinese and Indians here. I am saying that application process is not fair since it does not give everyone a fair shot.
I am saying if more highly skilled Chinese and Indians apply for the same job,no cap should prevent them from immigration. If there FIFO ( First In and First Out), how will ROW suffer ? Can you explain ?
